But did you know, in that film, there’s something we’ve all been missing.
As I’m sure you’re already well-aware, the movie tells the story of a family who set out on a vacation to Paris but end up leaving their youngest son, Kevin, behind.
20th Century FoxIf you think about it, little Kevin is left out because of a mix-up with the head count as the kids get into the car.
Forget this, apparently, one Reddit user thinks we’ve missed a vital part of the film – the real reason he was left behind this whole time.
The user, who goes by the name Bobcobble has revealed the eight-year-old may have been destined to be forgotten from the start.
20th Century FoxAccording to Bobcobble, it turns out it was the dad-of-the-family, Peter’s actions the night before the trip which led to Kevin being left at home.
A gif posted to the Movie Details thread on Reddit shows Peter throwing Kevin’s plane ticket in the bin as he picks up a pile of wet napkins he used to clean up milk which was spilled during an argument about pizza.
It looks like a pile of red napkins but as the gif zooms in on the tissue in Peter’s hands and the bin, Kevin’s American Airlines plane ticket is clear to see.

Other users suggested Peter knew what he was doing the whole time and intentionally threw away his young son’s plane ticket.

This is a fan theory in the making. Peter didn’t want Frank to spoil the vacation so when he found the perfect opportunity to throw out Kevin’s ticket, he took it right here.

You need to look deeper. Peter is dead inside. He has a huge house, family, good job…but he dresses like he shops at Sears? He hates his life, but doesn’t actually know it. His subconscious is controlling him more than he knows. When that milk spills, his inner rage and despair rises to the surface. His subconscious takes over and throws away Kevin’s ticket.
Notice what we see on the ticket in the trash:
-The ‘Kevin’ on the ticket is clearly an adult handwriting. But the way the ‘K’ is written implies some kind of rage. Almost like who wrote it was upset that they had to write ‘Kevin’ on the ticket in the first place.
Lastly, the napkins are red. This is about Peter slowly bleeding out in life.
