Never before has an iconic catchphrase felt so apt: ‘Can you smell what the Rock is cooking’. Yes, Mr. Johnson we can smell exactly what you’re cooking.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has gone and posted to Instagram again, and the world turns as if to say, ‘Hang about, surely that’s not human?’, well it seems our question has been answered.
The Rock’s video of him achieving a personal best 460lbs hip/glute thrusts (just over 208kg) went on to Instagram last night (November 30), and in the 12 hours since posting, at time of writing, it’s been watched 4.6 million times.
That’s a lot of thrusting.
He captioned the video:
Personal best 460lbs hip/glute thrusts to warm up before hitting legs.
Solid gains in strength and coach @daverienzi and I are always managing lower body past injuries – multiple knee surgeries, quad & adductor tears off pelvis, ruptured surgically repaired Achilles, multiple hernia surgical repairs etc etc. [sic]
Stronger now and carrying more dense muscle then [sic] ever before, but the key is really smart, precise, intense training and diet. And doing my best to always listen to my body.
In a career which has seen him conquer the American football field, professional wrestling, and Hollywood movies, he’s definitely doing something right, as he ends the year as the second highest paid actor in the world – and probably the most loved man on social media. Man or machine?
The Rock added in his caption:
And according to NASA, I’m basically bionic from the waist down.
Which always leads to inappropriate jokes whilst I drink my tequila ;) [sic]
We trained very hard today.
Who am I to question him? Absolutely no one. Not gonna. To be honest I’m more shocked this is just his warm up. But the folks in the comments section had other things on their minds.
Don’t know what these are talking about:
And while shifting some serious weight with his waist is one thing, The Rock has done something else inconceivable this week – jeez, when does this guy rest – he’s solved the pineapple on pizza problem.
Few things divide people like the pineapple on pizza debate – except maybe Brexit and socialised healthcare – so it’s a good job The Rock got involved in this.
Everyone who actually likes pineapple on pizza now has a huge celebrity endorsement, as The Rock has described pineapple on pizza as his ‘JAM’.
Sharing a picture of him picking up a delightfully large slice of pizza to Instagram, the actor explained how he’d been given permission by his coach to load up on carbs:
He wrote:
Got the glorious text from my strength & conditioning coach @daverienzi that read “DJ, need a mid week carb up for your big scenes tomorrow. Eat a pizza and send me your pics in the morning” to which I responded – Watch. This.
We’re having fun strategically manipulating my diet/body for shooting HOBBS & SHAW (my Fast & Furious spinoff film) and I love these midweek pizza carb ups like a drunk loves free peanuts. [sic]
As for my pizza toppings – keep in mind, I’m the guy who likes to put tequila and brown sugar in my oatmeal, so pineapple on pizza is MY JAM – with ham. [sic]
Gonna go grab a pizza and get to work on my glutes.
