If there wasn’t already enough evidence that there is a lack of empathy for Syrian refugees, this video might just prove it once and for all.
It shows the shocking moment that a DJ goes to play the ‘Syrian national anthem’, but instead puts on an incredibly inappropriate dance anthem to British tourists on a party boat.
The video, which was has now been deleted from Facebook, begins with the DJ saying: “I need a moment of respect and silence on board today for the national anthem of Syria.”

But instead of playing this, he launches into the 2014 dance anthem Runaway (U & I) by Galantis.
If you didn’t think this was inappropriate enough already, it gets worse, especially when you dissect the lyrics.
All the revellers begin singing along: “I wanna run away. I wanna run away. Anywhere out this place. I wanna run away.”
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 4.8 million Syrian migrants have fled to Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, to escape a brutal civil war and ISIS militants, with 6.6 million internally displaced within Syria as well.
But do we really seem to care as a nation? The fact that Prime Minister Theresa May recently scraped the ministerial post for Syrian refugees and we have only committed to bringing a mere 20,000 refugees by 2020 tells its own story.
The party boat’s location remains unknown, but these guys may be boozing it up in the same waters that more than 3,000 migrants have died in this year, according to the International Organisation for Migration.
So it’s no surprise that the people of Twitter weren’t impressed:
@lamb_karahi I swear by everything this broke my heart, that’s fucked up

In fact, they wanted some instant karma to strike the party boat:
@lamb_karahi shame their boat didn’t capsize like so many Syrian refugees suffered in the Mediterranean.

@lamb_karahi I hope they all drown

Complete and utter filth I hope the kraken randomly appears and drags their boat down to the pits of the ocean https://t.co/5vKIn1ZKfc
