However, among the pencil cases, uniforms and backpack’s I never realised guns were part of that package?

Well clearly I must be wrong because giant retailer Walmart seem to have a different idea!

In one of their stores in the U.S. the global chain made a huge gun display, hanging a sign above the weapons reading:

Own the school year like a hero.

Outrage soon spread after a customer’s photo circulated on social media of the concerning display.

A Walmart spokesperson told CNBC in a statement:

What’s seen in this photograph would never be acceptable in our stores.

We regret this situation and are looking into how it could have happened.

Initial reports said the store responsible for the inappropriate display was in Evansville, Indiana, but Walmart have not confirmed this.

Leeanna May, the customer who initially tweeted the photo and who also spoke with The Washington Post has since set her Twitter account to private.

Leeanaa insists that the photo was in fact taken in Evansville and said:

We have already lost so many innocent lives to guns – people don’t seem to honestly care!

Regardless of where the photo took place, the general consensus from people is that it’s not okay to be marketing deadly weapons in this way – I mean, you know it’s bad when Piers Morgan decides to wade in!
