With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the number of new relationships and proposals is about to go up ten-fold. Trust me, I can guarantee it.
Okay, I can’t actually, but I just enjoyed how dramatic it sounded in my head. What I mean to say is that it’s going to be a lot harder to ignore all the sickeningly loved-up couples on our social media feeds for the next month or so.
Therefore, to distract your attention from those people, let me introduce to you: the woman who’s planning to declare her undying love for her duvet – by marrying it.
No, seriously. Pascale Sellick, 49, is fed up of conventional relationships, describing her duvet as the ‘most intimate and reliable relationship’ she’s ever had.
Amen to that, sister. Seriously, how many times have you snoozed your alarm to spend just five more minutes in the warm embrace of your duvet? It never seems to get any easier either.
I’m not sure I’d go as far as marrying my duvet though. But Pascale, who has decided to, will have a lavish ceremony, surrounded by anyone who wishes to attend – it’s an open invite.
In other words, anyone who wishes to observe the moment she publicly declares her love for her favourite bedtime companion, is free to do so.
Pascale is an artist who describes herself as a ‘rude, crude, spectacular exhibitionist’, so the ceremony’s not likely to be something you’ll want to miss.
Held at Rougemont Gardens in Exeter, Devon, on Sunday, February 10, the unusual ceremony will take place at 2pm, and will be followed by a ‘free wedding party’ at The Glorious Art House in Fore Street.
I wonder if there’ll be an abundance of duvets for her guests to sit back and relax with? Probably, seeing as though the dress code is pyjamas, dressing gowns, onesies, and slippers.
Guests also have the option to bring cuddly teddies and hot water bottles if it’s a bit chilly – which, let’s face it, it will be as it’s February in the UK. It’s always chilly.
Her vows will be read in front of a fellow artist with no religious affinity, who’ll be performing the ceremony. Who’s reading the duvet’s vows is anyone’s guess though.
Speaking of her unusual relationship, the 49-year-old explained:
My duvet is the longest, strongest, most intimate and reliable relationship that I have ever had. That’s because it has always been there for me and gives me great hugs.
I love my duvet so much I would like to invite people to witness my union with the most constant, comforting companion in my life.
There will be music and a ceremony, laughs and entertainment.
The bride will be wearing a nightgown and fluffy slippers, topped off with a dressing gown. It’s not yet known what cover the duvet will be adorning on the day though, as Pascale is keeping it a surprise.
To help make the wedding the best day of her life, Pascale has recruited Anna FitzGerald, of WooHoo Art Events, as her wedding planner.
She said:
This is the most out there art happening to date. I’m really pleased to be involved. Valentine’s Day can be depressing for lots of people so hopefully this will lift peoples’ spirits.
It would be wonderful if folks could shake off their English reserve and rock up in their sleepwear for a bit of light-hearted frivolity.
At the after party there’ll be a wedding band, with speeches and a cutting of the cake. To be fair, it just sounds like a huge pyjama party, and who doesn’t love those?
Who’s joining me?
