Woman Shamed For ‘Provocative’ Outfit Told To Leave Restaurant

An American woman was left humiliated after she went out for dinner in a new crop top and got told her outfit was ‘too provocative’ for the restaurant.

Sueretta Emke was nervous about showing off her new outfit, but after some encouragement from her husband she decided to wear it to the popular buffet restaurant Golden Corral in Erie, Pennsylvania.

However, as she made her way to the buffet she was approached by a manager who told her they’d received a complaint from another customer about the way Sueretta was dressed.

In a Facebook post, she explained:

I went up to get myself something to eat . When I was approached by a manager and told I was dressed “too provocatively” and another customer had complained so I needed to put something else on or leave.

The mother told the employee she’d driven for an hour to get to the restaurant and didn’t have any other clothes with her, but they reportedly ‘didn’t care’ about her explanation.

She tried to get the manager to be more specific about what exactly was wrong with her clothes, but they were evasive, saying it ‘wasn’t his place to say’ what she was ‘showing too much of’.

After a heated debate between the manager, Sueretta and her husband, the humiliated woman was told to leave the restaurant.

On Facebook she argued the restaurant shouldn’t be able to pick and choose who they are going to enforce a dress code upon.

She believed the complaint was made on account of her weight, writing:

I have seen people in there wearing less and nothing is said to them but I really do believe something was said to me because im not thin so it’s not considered sexy ..

Sueretta later called the franchise owner who told her they are a ‘family restaurant’, and so if they get complaints they will address them.

She added how the experience left her unwilling to wear the outfit again, writing:

What really sucks was that was a new shirt. I’ve never owned a crop top before and I was nervous at first about wearing it but my husband loved the way it looked on me and encouraged me to wear it since I liked it so much.

I really felt cute in it and now I never wanna wear that shirt again even though it was the first time I ever wore it and I felt good about my self [sic] in it….

Hopefully Sueretta will show the restaurant they were wrong and wear the outfit again; she shouldn’t be shamed out of wearing certain clothes simply because of other people’s opinions of them.
