A woman has finally received a response from a lift company – seven months after she tweeted for help after getting trapped.
Amanda Carpenter, ex-communications director to former presidential hopeful Senator Ted Cruz, was in an Amtrak lift at Baltimore-Washington International Airport when the lift stopped and she became stuck, reports the indy100.

With no means of communication, Amanda decided to ask her 90,000 Twitter followers if any of them could help:
Guys. I'm trapped in an amtrak elevator at Bwi airport. Help?

Worryingly, she then realised that the lift’s certificate of safety compliance had expired months earlier:
Here is the notice showing inspection expiration for the elevator I was trapped inside. Thx Amtrak pic.twitter.com/BkTKciOki5

She was eventually released from her temporary prison and thought nothing more of it – that is until this week…

Yep, seven whole months after Amanda got stuck, Amtrak finally replied to her tweet to see if she was still there.
She informed them that – fortunately for everyone involved – she wasn’t in the lift anymore:
Oh, my thank you for this but I was trapped months ago. Like last February. Thanks for checking…? Ha. https://t.co/dWt8C4mcan

Amtrak later said that someone else had just retweeted her message and they had assumed it was new – so they weren’t actually asking her if she’d been stuck in there for seven months.
With their tail firmly between their legs, they even offered Amanda a free journey on their fancy express train service to try and make up for their embarrassing error.
@amandacarpenter Not our finest hour yesterday. We'd love to offer you an Acela ride on us for the inconvenience back in February.

In the end it turned out that Amtrak had actually replied to Amanda just minutes after her original tweet to let her know they were making every effort to get her out ASAP.
They could’ve saved themselves a whole lot of time, effort and embarrassment…
