Girl Power levels will be going over 9000 as iconic pop group, Spice Girls, have announced they’re getting back together for a reunion tour.
The announcement came via Melanie Brown, aka Mel B, aka Scary Spice, during an appearance yesterday (June 27) on American daytime show The Today Show.
Speaking to the show’s host, Hoda Kotb, the singer claimed: ‘Finally, they’ve got it together’.
She also shut down rumours claiming Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) was reluctant for the reunion to go ahead.
Diehard fans of the Spice Girls have been clamouring for the group to make a comeback ever since Victoria Beckham posted a photo of the five girls hanging out at Geri Horner’s house (aka Ginger Spice), last February.
Unfortunately, chances of a reunion were quickly squashed by The Sun, who reported they were in meetings for a greatest hits compilation, a TV show, and other endorsement deals.
However, it appears to have all changed as Mel B told Kotb:
I’m the only one that keeps on saying we’re going to be performing, which we are gonna be performing. Finally, they’ve got it together. Yes.
She also spoke about Victoria’s ‘apparent’ unwillingness to get the band back together, stating:
She’s always saying that. Stop it. We are touring. Should I have really said that out loud? Yes, we are going to be doing performances together for sure.
During an interview with Vogue back in February, Victoria stated: ‘The girls aren’t going on tour’.
While she did appear to put the kibosh on any kind of reunion, she did stress how all five girls are still very close with one another.
She continued:
It was so great to see the girls. We had such a fun lunch. It was really, really, really lovely. I still speak to them all individually, but for us all to get together was really lovely.
This isn’t the first time Mel B has had fans hopes up for a Spice Girls reunion.
Last February she fuelled speculation Victoria, Mel C, Geri, Emma and herself, would be reuniting for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Leeds native made an appearance on US daytime talk show The Real, which is America’s version of Loose Women, where she teased the hosts and audiences of a possible reunion.
She revealed all five of the Spice Girls received invitations to last May’s royal wedding but wouldn’t say anything else.
But come May 19, the reunion never came. Instead, all we got was a very surly looking Victoria Beckham stepping out with her husband David.
The last time Victoria, Mel B, Mel C, Emma and Geri reunited for a live performance, it was during the 2012 Olympic games in London.
The performance was the most tweeted moment of the entire sporting event, with over 116,000 tweets on Twitter per minute.
