Adele’s insane levels of success continued last night as she swept up no fewer than five awards at last night’s Grammys.
But it seems the star didn’t quite agree with the judges’ decision to award her record, 25, Album of the Year…
In fact, she was so convinced that Beyoncé‘s Lemonade was more deserving of the accolade that she physically broke the award in half on stage.
During her acceptance speech she said:
I can’t possibly accept this award. The Lemonade album was just so monumental, Beyoncé.
It was so monumental and well thought-out and beautiful and soul-bearing… we appreciate that. All of us artists here adore you. You are our light.
It seems like it’s becoming a bit of a tradition for people to kick off when Beyoncé doesn’t win at award shows – who can forget Kanye’s famous intervention during Taylor Swift’s VMAs acceptance speech?
Even though Beyoncé did pick up Best Urban Contemporary Album, just to confirm her stance, Adele later said backstage:
I thought it was her year. What the fuck does she have to do to win Album of the Year?
I remember when I was 11 years old, I remember how I felt hearing her voice. I fell in love immediately with her.
The way I felt when I first heard No No No was exactly the same as when I first heard ‘Lemonade’ last year. The other artists who mean that much to me are all dead.
And it seems like Adele‘s speech made an impact as Beyoncé could be seen with tears in her eyes.
Collaboration time?
