Break-ups can suck, but if you’re going to have the whole world watching as things collapse around you, you can at least turn everyone’s attention to a bittersweet goodbye.

Ariana Grande’s Mean Girls/Bring It On/Legally Blonde/13 Going On 30 inspired video for Thank U, Next dropped on Friday night (November 30), and aside from the cultural references and cutting humour, she’s included an apology and made reference to her ex Pete Davidson’s goods.

Check it out:

Talk about putting it all out there. A Mean Girls inspired vid would be good enough on its own but our Ariana’s gone full on 00s nostalgia in the promo for her latest release, and everyone in the world has fallen in love with her just a little bit more.

Ariana and Pete called off their engagement in October after first getting together in May, and since then through the media – social and traditional, including episodes of Saturday Night Live – things have been spilling all over the place.

Now with the release of the video for Thank U, Next – which peaked at around 829,000 viewers watching simultaneously, with over 516,000 messages posted in the discussion sidebar, another all-time record for Premieres on YouTube – Ariana has extended a fig leaf to Pete.

The first of these is at the 57 second mark – though why anyone would want to skip through this video is beyond comprehension – where Ariana has a restyled Burn Book. Except this time it’s a Thank U, Next book.

In it, Ariana pastes a pic of the pair and writes ‘sry I dipped’, ‘Pete’ in a love heart, ‘I love you always’ and ‘HUUUUUUGE’.

People on Twitter have taken the ‘sry I dipped’ as an apology from Ariana for ending their engagement and the feels are flying:

It’s not just the ‘Burn Book’ bit that’s got tongues wagging.

Among the cast of celebrity cameos, including Kris Jenner and Jonathan Bennett (Mean Girls’ Aaron Samuels), Legally Blonde star Jennifer Coolidge plays a part in a cut scene which has big implications.

Ariana says:

I mean, he was really cute, you know. And he was, he was really big.

Jennifer says:

Well I’ve only gone out with one guy that had a big front tooth, and I liked it cos… he never got anything stuck in the front teeth.

Have you ever gone out with someone who didn’t have any teeth at all?

Ariana replies:

No.

It’s not just Ariana fans who’ve approved of her nostalgic video.

Mark Ruffalo from 13 Going On 30 tweeted saying:

Having some Razzles (it’s a candy AND a gum) in your honor, @ArianaGrande! #thankunext [sic]

Meanwhile, Kris Jenner has been tweeting about the video:

You get the point.

Kinda wish I had a famous ex who could tell everyone how average I am down there. Keep doing you, Ariana.
