Bad Pop want to invite you to share a little bit of their virtual punk rock reality.
The Canadian trio have just dropped a music video that looks exactly like a gaming sequence to accompany their self-titled single, Bad Pop, and they did it all for £75.
The video follows the journey of front man, Chris Connelly, through the highs and lows of the indie music industry, from death by social media managers to powering up with a pint of Pils.
Swapping his axe for a sharp-shooter, Connelly is accompanied by his band mates, bassist Catherine Hiltz and drummer Aaron Klassen throughout the video.
The DIY 8-bit aesthetic is part gaming nostalgia trip, part homage to the mind-bending alternate reality sequence in The Beach and part satirical comment on the music business.
Sprinkled with a little self-deprecating pop punk malice, Bad Pop’s rampage eventually crescendos in a vigilante that’s reminiscent of Grand Theft Auto does Duck Hunt, hopped up on sweet E-numbers rather than cocaine.
Bad Pop’s furious but refreshing upcoming release is a deluge of raw punk rock energy, warm analogue psychedelia, and nihilistic millennial musings on music festivals, the loneliness of adulthood – and most importantly, themselves.
The double single release of Bad Pop and Other Spooky Is comes with one directive: Play it loud.
