Boy George Wants Sophie Turner To Play Him In Biopic And She Agrees

Boy George has approved the idea of Sophie Turner portraying him in his biopic and the actor is ‘SO down’ for the role. 

If you’ve ever been watching Game of Thrones and thought ‘wait a minute, is that Sansa Stark or Boy George?’, then you’re not alone.

The pair are often compared to one another and when you look at certain photos of the singer, especially from the Karma Charmeleon era, it’s pretty to easy to see why.

With the success of Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and the recent Elton John film Rocketman, films about the UK’s music legends are clearly all the rage. Boy George is apparently up next as the Culture Club singer is in the process of developing a movie about his life and career with MGM.

No one has been confirmed for the role of the singer yet but the 58-year-old, who was born George O’Dowd, appeared on the Australian morning radio show Fitzy and Wippa on Monday (June 17) where he spoke about potential candidates.

He explained:

One of the most interesting suggestions was Sophie Turner. It’s really strange but that’s been a suggestion.

George said the decision to cast a woman to play him would likely be a controversial one but that didn’t put him off, especially as his younger self would have been over the moon with the decision.

He continued:

I think that will upset people, which I really like.

‘Oh she can’t play you, she’s a woman.’ But you know, when I was 17 I would have loved to have been her… that was the ambition.

The news of George’s ideal leading lady was shared online and after Turner came across it she didn’t hesitate to express her thoughts on the project.

Responding to a tweet about George’s comments, she wrote:

I’m SO down @BoyGeorge

The biopic was announced in May and is set to trace the singer’s life, from childhood in Woolwich, south-east London, with Irish parents and four siblings, to his rise during the New Romantic era of pop in London, the Guardian reports.

Although the cast is still to be decided, Sacha Gervasi, whose previous subjects include Hitchcock and Anvil! The Story of Anvil, is set to write and direct.

The film doesn’t have a release date as of yet but hopefully it won’t be long before we get one along with a cast announcement!
