Chris Cornell’s Eerie Facebook Post Just Hours Before His Death

It seems like social media is full of Chris Cornell today, and for good reason.

The 52-year-old musician died on Wednesday night after playing a gig in Detroit, and the suspected cause of death is possible suicide.

He was a legend among fans and fellow musicians alike, who all recognised his breadth of talent.

His death makes his latest and final Facebook post seem really eerie.

The video itself is a clip of a music video by Soundgarden dating back to 2013.

It’s unclear why he posted this particular clip, but the lyrics posted along with it seem all the more relevant after recent revelations.

The lyrics are simply: 

I’m the shape of the hole
Inside your heart

I don’t really need to go into detail about why that’s really god damn sad.

This seems eerily foreboding of everything that’s happened, and is especially saddening when you relate it to the outpouring of people on social media who clearly feel such a loss.

Chris’ last song on stage was a cover of the Led Zeppelin track In My Time of Dying, which opens with the line ‘In my time of dying, I want nobody to mourn’.

Musicians and fans alike have taken to social media to voice their tributes to the late musician, including Elton John, Jimmy Page and Cat Stevens.

Chris was a pioneer of the grunge genre and was widely regarded as one of the best voices in the industry, with a four octave vocal range.

Beyond his music career, Chris was dedicated to philanthropy and founded the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation to help children suffering homelessness, abuse or neglect, as well as championing refugee aid.

RIP Chris Cornell.
