Each year Coachella festival attracts the rich and famous to dance all day and night in California’s Colorado Desert.
While the Kardashian clan, Paris Hilton and Emily Ratajkowski were enjoying performances from Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish and Childish Gambino, two rock legends decided to entertain crowds in their home town.
Three-time Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile and Foo Fighters founder Dave Grohl busked on the streets of Seattle on Saturday (April 20).
Setting up in front of Pike Place Market, the duo performed songs including The Beatles’ Let It Be and the Foo Fighters’ Times Like These.
Carlile announced the surprise on her social media shortly before their performance began.
Sharing a photo of herself and Grohl on Instagram, she wrote:
So… rumour has it we’re maybe going busking at Pike place right now… see you soon fish!!
She later shared a snap from the performance with the caption:
Got nostalgic and decided to swing by my old busking spot Pike Place Public Market with the twins and Dave Grohl…honestly one of the most surreal moments of my life. Thanks guys.
The ‘twins’ are Tim and Phil Hanseroth, two of Carlile’s regular songwriting partners.
Carlile shared a live stream of the spontaneous session on her Facebook page which has received over a million views at time of writing (April 22).
Onlookers told The Seattle Times the set lasted for around 15 to 20 minutes.
One bystander named Dani added the musicians didn’t introduce themselves to the crowd which had gathered to watch.
Fans shared videos and photos from the set on social media, clearly excited they were able to witness it.
One tweeted:
When you’re walking through Pike Place Market being a tourist and roll up on Brandi Carlile and Dave Grohl busking…
Another commenter was happy he stumbled across the performance:
Dave Grohl and Brandi Carlile giving an impromptu performance at Pike Place Market! Not a bad thing to stumble into on a Saturday afternoon
It was a common feeling, as another posted:
This is what happens when you’re at the right place at the right time. Brandi Carlile was awesome. And Dave Grohl was awesome too.
It would be pretty cool if other famous musicians could put on their own busking gig in their local towns, inspired by Grohl and Carlile.
We’re in Manchester so it’s hard to pick just one artist to reperesent Mancunia, although a certain reunion seems as unlikely as ever.
