It seems a lot of people can’t just take Glastonbury for what it is. Well, anything for what it is really. You’d never have thought Ed Sheeran of all people would be the subject of a conspiracy theory, but here we are.
Calling fake news on his closing headline set last night, viewers took to Twitter to lament the fact that when Sheeran stopped playing guitar, the sound of a guitar riff could be heard in the background.
Is Ed Sheeran signing to a backing track??? Guitar music still playing as it lies on stage #glastonbury2017 he's scamming it!!!

Don't understand how Ed Sheeran's headlining with a backing track when even Shaggy had a full backing band ?

#Glastonbury
Basically it's Ed Sheeran singing to a backing track.
Couldn't he get real musicians?
I like him but all a bit karaoke.— William Snootsworth (@Snootsworth) June 25, 2017
Am I right to say, Ed Sheeran isn't actually playing that guitar and the sound is in the backing track ??? #Glastonbury #Glastonbury2017

Christ almighty. I’m no Sheeran evangelist but even I know the geezer uses a loop pedal on stage.
He eventually took to his own Twitter to address the smears.
Never thought I'd have to explain it, but everything I do in my live show is live, it's a loop station, not a backing track. Please google x

He plays a rhythm, records it, and loops it. And then he’ll loop stuff over that. You know all that looking down he did? That’s him working on his looping. Still, it would probably be much easier if he just employed a band.
It clearly irked Ed but he shrugged it off in the true spirit of Glastonbury by tweeting again…
Anyway, great night, great atmosphere, family, friends, fun. Love you all x
