After announcing his plan to run for U.S. president in the 2020 elections, the obvious next step for Kanye West was to tackle interior design, naturally.
And fueled by his monumental ego, he decided to go straight to the big boys: Ikea.
Through a phone call made on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, Yeezy addressed the world’s largest furniture retailer in third person.
He said:
Yo Ikea, allow Kanye to create, allow him to make this thing because you know what, I want a bed that he makes, I want a chair that he makes – I want more products from ‘Ye.
He told the show:
I have to work with Ikea – make furniture for interior design, for architecture, and I know that if I do a minimalist apartment inside of a college dorm where the TV goes on the side of the wall.
An Ikea spokesperson then issued a statement in response saying that while the company was ‘flattered by Kanye West’s high interest’, they had no intention to ‘collaborate at this point in time’. Ouch.
The response from Ikea Australia, though, was a little more lighthearted and featured a mock-up of what the Yeezy collab could look like.
A nod to West’s latest music video for ‘Famous’, the Australian branch introduced the ‘Yeezy’ bed. The image was accompanied by the caption: “Hej Kanye, we’d love to see what you’d create…we could make you Famous!”
