It looks like rumours of Apple wanting to make its own TV shows might just be true.

The tech giant is creating a scripted series featuring none other than Dr. Dre, the rapper/producer who joined Apple when it bought his and Jimmy Lovine’s Beats enterprise for around £3 billion in 2014.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the show will be called Vital Signs and will premiere exclusively on Apple Music with Dre starring in and executive producing the six-episode ‘semi-autobiographical’ series.

It sounds like the show is going to be a long way off Apple’s squeaky-clean corporate image.

The Hollywood Reporter said:

While technically a half-hour, the show is not a comedy. Instead, it is described as a dark drama with no shortage of violence and sex.

Apparently there’s even an orgy scene, which seems pretty far removed from Apple’s normal way of working – Apple Music mutes all swearing during its Beats 1 radio broadcasts.

Last month The Street reported that Apple was sounding out various Hollywood execs to secure rights to its own streaming TV service and even thinking about producing its own shows.

Using Dre for a show seems to make sense given the recent success of the movie Straight Outta Compton, which revolves around the early days of Dre’s rap group N.W.A.
