If you’re a fan of Friends and equally enthusiastic about musical theatre, you could be in for a right old treat.

News has reached the UK that the lucky citizens of Chicago are getting a Friends musical – albeit an unauthorised one – reports the Independent.

The show is titled The One Where They Sing and has been labelled a ‘musical parody’ by its creators.

Last night we had the “Table Read” for the show. Here is the whole night boiled down to 15 seconds!

The storyline of the musical is based on the first season and apparently it will make use of show favourites like Smelly Cat, and is also set to feature Ross’ old pet, Marcel the monkey.

The production doesn’t feature any household name actors – it’s pretty small scale – but according to reports, it has snowballed after an ‘overwhelmingly positive response’ at a comedy festival.

Writer and director of the project, Eli golden, told Buzzfeed:

Friends is that show I watch every night before I go to bed, so naturally, it means a lot to me.

I am a huge lover of musicals and really wanted to tell a great story while staying true to the source material.

This is a musical for fans by the fans, both of Friends and musicals in general.

Eli says she started writing the musical about three years ago and has had the songs stuck in her head ever since.

“Between the cast, the band and the production team, we have stacked this show with funny and talented people,” said Eli. “And that atmosphere is infectious.”

The show has a running time of around 90 minutes and will run from 10th June to 29th July at the MCL Chicago theatre.

Hopefully it’ll be better than Joey’s foray into musical theatre…
