Rita Ora’s attempts to leave Jay Z’s record label, Roc Nation, have ended with her being sued for a whopping £1.5 million.

The Guardian reports, that in December last year Ora issued a lawsuit against Roc Nation in the hopes of ending her contract with the Jay Z owned label.

Ora argues that changes at the company meant she had been sidelined since releasing an album with the label in 2012.

Now though, Roc Nation are suing the British singer, accusing her of breaching a five-album contract.

In the suit, issued late last week in a California superior court, the label claims it had ‘tirelessly promoted’ Rita Ora’s career and spent $2.3 million (£1.5 million) on a still undelivered second album.

They now want that money back, including damages for the albums she hasn’t produced.

All may not be as it seems though – according to Billboard, Ora’s lawyer, Howard E King, is calm about the suit.

He claims Roc Nation were forced to file the case to avoid losing standing. King goes on to say that Jay Z had called Ora after she filed her suit, agreeing to release her, and that the two were now finalising the details.

The only remaining complication involves Jay Z getting Roc Nation’s parent company, Sony Music, to agree to the deal.
