Kanye West is reportedly suffering from memory loss following his recent hospitalisation, according to one of the rapper’s longtime collaborators.
West was committed to the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA last year after reportedly experiencing ‘temporary psychosis’ caused by dehydration and sleep deprivation. He checked out a week later under the care of his wife, Kim Kardashian and physician Dr. Michael Farzam.
Malik Yusuf, who has worked with Kanye West since the early 2000s, recently gave an update on West’s health.
Speaking to Popsugar at the Grammys on Sunday, Yusef said:
I’ve been to his house [and] sat down with him for about six, seven hours, just walking through his health and recovery. His memory is coming back, which is super good. [He’s] just healing, spending time with his family. Saint is getting big and is walking, playing with toys, so that invigorates [Kanye].
He also confirmed that West is not working on new music at the moment.
West’s hospitalisation occurred just weeks after his wife was held up at gun point during Paris Fashion Week.
At the same time, the 39-year-old had been working hard on his Yeezy collaboration with Adidas as well as working on new music and performing at sold out shows around the country.
West began to behave erratically when he controversially cut his set short after just 30 minutes following a lengthy tirade against Beyonce, claiming that her husband and West’s former friend Jay Z had the means to have him killed. He also caused controversy when he admitted that he ‘would have voted for Donald Trump’.
Despite the side effects of his breakdown, though, it sounds like West is on his way back to good health.
The rapper is currently in New York City preparing to unveil his new fashion collection for Yeezy Season 5 during New York Fashion Week.
