LadBaby’s Sausage Roll Song Is Officially Christmas Number One 2018

LadBaby’s rendition of We Built This City has only gone and secured the much coveted spot of Christmas Number One from 2018.

The song has beaten the likes of Ariana Grande and Ava Max to secure this prestigious position, much to the delight of sausage roll fans everywhere.

We Built This City (On Sausage Rolls) is a timeless ode to the popular lunchtime option, but has also been released for a very important cause indeed.

The money from the single – which is a cover of Starship’s We Built This City – will go towards supporting the work of The Trussell Trust; a UK food bank charity.

According to The Trussell Trust website:

Fourteen million people live below the poverty line in the UK, with individuals going hungry every day for a range of reasons, from benefit delays to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income.

The Trussell Trust’s network of over 420 foodbanks operate out of more than 1,200 centres across the UK and provide a minimum of three days’ emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis. In 2017/18, we gave 1,332,952 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis.

LadBaby – whose real name is Mark Hoyle – released the single on December 14; going on to achieve great success despite his lack of prior singing experience.

Prior to this exciting announcement, the 31-year-old ‘dad blogger’ from Nottingham spoke to OfficialCharts.com midweek:

Who would have thought it? A sausage roll song being sung by a Nottingham lad would be sitting at Number 2 in the Official midweek Singles Chart?!

What a fantastic achievement and great start, but let’s not stop there!

Let’s pinch that number one spot from the global mega stars, eat our own body weight in sausage rolls and, most importantly, raise even more money to support the amazing UK food banks charity Trussell Trust this Christmas.

Fans have warmed to the tongue in cheek lyrics of the surprise hit, with silly lines such as, ‘a little bit of pork wrapped in a puff pastry case’ and ‘cram it while it’s piping hot and shove it in your face’.

And many have rushed to congratulate Mark, whose year has also included being crowned celebrity dad of the year 2018.

One amused patriot tweeted:

Fans have long warmed to Mark’s down-to-earth honesty and daft sense of humour, enjoying the closeness of the Nottingham family and their relatable, entertaining adventures together, from KFC Easter egg hunts to child proofing the BBQ.

And now he is using his significant social media presence to help other families this Christmas, selling over 75,000 copies of the daft yet warm-hearted single.
