Lil Peep’s Death Now Being Treated As Criminal Investigation

The tragic death of musician Lil Peep is now the subject of a police investigation and some ‘troubling private messages’ are being scrutinised.

The emo rapper, real name Gustav Åhr, died on November 15 from a suspected drug overdose, aged just 21.

Tucson Police Department has now opened an investigation into Peep’s apparent overdose.

Law enforcement sources have reportedly told TMZ officers are ‘interested in texts’ allegedly sent from a woman named Mariah Bons, who the website says ‘went to the tour bus to see Peep’ shortly before he died.

The emerging emo rapper gained acclaim on YouTube, where his songs White Wine, Benz Truck and The Way I See Things gained millions of views.

A police report revealed Lil Peep died in his sleep just hours before he was due to go on stage.

In a video posted online hours before his death – which has now been removed from Instagram – the musician said he’d taken prescription drugs and other substances, saying:

I’m good, I’m not sick.

Although the lyrics of his songs regularly made reference to cocaine, ecstasy and Xanax addictions, the rapper had previously claimed on social media that he was a ‘productive junkie’ and didn’t take any drugs.

Peep, who resided in London as of this year, is a member of GOTHBOICLIQUE alongside Lil Tracy, Mackned, Cold Hart and others, and his debut album, Come Over When You’re Sober, had just dropped in September.

He was heavily involved in fashion, proudly displaying his own unique style while performing, and attending fashion week catwalk shows such as Balmain.

Friend and collaborator, Post Malone, shared his condolences:

Marshmello also paid tribute to the ‘nicest person’, writing:

Peep was the nicest person. hanging out with him, talking to him about music, the song ideas we were going to do together and touring was so amazing.

Everyone will miss you man.

Now, fellow musician and friend of Lil Peep, Lil Uzi, has tweeted to say he’s taking a break from substance abuse.

On social media, Uzi tweeted:

We would love 2 stop ….. but do you really care cause we been on xanax all fucking year.

Seemingly empathising with Lil Peep’s situation, he added:

Rip buddy I 100% understand and I don’t fault u [sic].

Uzi went on to tell his 2.6m followers on Twitter how he’s been suffering with symptoms after trying to stay ‘sober’.

He tweeted:

Sober 2 day I have been shaking.

I have been cursing my love ones out and fighting. In the studio with no thoughts in my head.

Teeth biting down because I just wanna be angry at something ……maybe I will just smoke weed tonight.

As the music world tries to come to terms with Lil Peep’s death, Lil Uzi’s response is something to both admire and encourage.

His explanatory tweets show just how hard and complicated addiction is.
