Lil Uzi Vert has announced his decision to stop making music, much to the shock of his fans.

The 24-year-old rapper has explained he’s ‘done with music’, adding how he’d ‘deleted everything’.

Writing on Instagram stories, Uzi said:

I wanna take the time out to say I thank each and every one of my supporters but I’m done with music.

I deleted everything. I wanna be normal … I wanna wake up in 2013. You are free.

For months, fans had been eagerly anticipating Uzi’s second studio album, Eternal Awake. It’d been thought this was close to completion, and fans now fear the musician could have scrapped the project.

Some have begged him just to take a break and carry on, while others have expressed extreme disappointment at this bombshell.

However, others have shown empathy towards Uzi, respecting his desire to ‘be normal’, with one person tweeting:

Hey peace to Lil Uzi Vert for getting out of the game. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be famous and what that does to your mind and heart. Really talented artist but he knows best for him. [sic]

Give Uzi some respect. The dude worked his ass off while dealing with everything from drug addiction to mental health. All while being directly under the public’s eye.

The guy made a huge impact in music today and not only that, he did it his way. Let the man be.

Good luck to Lil Uzi Vert with whatever he plans on doing next, and fair play to him for choosing to focus on his own wellbeing in a pressurised industry.
