Enter Sandman: KoЯn has a new bass player and he’s the 12-year-old son of Metallica’s bassist, Robert Trujillo.

Tye Trujillo will be joining Korn on the South American leg of the tour, in an addition that will see nu-metal and the offspring of metal legend merge. Apparently, rock n roll courses through the Trujillo blood and young Tye is no exception.

You can watch the fledgling group perform on Good Morning, Sacramento in the clip below:

In a statement, Korn said:

On April 17 Korn is heading down to South America for a run of dates in Columbia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Fieldy is unable to make the shows so the band will be joined by a special guest.

Filling in for bass duties will be Tye Trujillo, the 12-year old son of Metallica’s Robert Trujillo and member of NorCal group The Helmets.

The statement continued:

We are bummed Fieldy can’t join us on this run but excited to do a few gigs with a young player like Tye. We look forward to welcoming our brother Fieldy back when we return to the States in May. Fieldy will resume Korn’s 2017 tour at Carolina Rebellion on May 6.

While many think the choice of young Trujillo is inspired, some South American fans are less than happy about the replacement.

Understandably, they feel short-changed, having paid to see the line up nu metal aficionados have known and loved for over a decade.

Are you fuckin serious???? Fuck that. You don’t come often to South America, some people waited for YEARS and this happens. I’m not blaming Fieldy, he must have good reasons but at least show some respect adding a professional player like Ryan from Mudvayne like you did some years ago. This fuckin sucks!

PS. I’ve seen 3 videos of the kid playing, not impressed, he is just good for his age.People is paying good money to see the complete line up.

Many echoed his complaint, with another venting, ‘What a lack of respect for South America! Millions of fans waiting for your fat lazy ass!’

While the move might be a nod towards nepotism, it’s also a vouchsafe for rock ‘n’ roll fans who will enjoy seeing how musical talent transcends generations.

Good luck to Tye – it might be a tough crowd for the young virtuoso.
