Netflix is dropping an incredible Bruce Springsteen documentary in December featuring a recording of one of the singer’s recent Broadway performances.
If you’ve ever wanted to see the Born to Run singer live but never had the opportunity, the streaming service is offering the next best thing in the form of the filmed version of the legend’s performance.
Springsteen on Broadway will offer Springsteen fans a front row seat to both his life and performance, and it’s set to be released on December 15, the same date as the performer’s final night of his run in New York.
The official synopsis for the epic documentary reads:
Springsteen on Broadway is a solo acoustic performance written and performed by Tony Award, Academy Award, and 20-time Grammy Award winner Bruce Springsteen.
Based on his worldwide best-selling autobiography Born to Run “Springsteen on Broadway” is a unique evening with Bruce, his guitar, a piano, and his very personal stories. In addition, it features a special appearance by Patti Scialfa.
The Broadway show has received a host of good reviews, so the show is sure to make for some good viewing – and best of all you can enjoy it all from the comfort of your own home.
I think it’s the perfect way to watch a performance. You don’t even have to worry about missing your favourite song if you have to run to the toilet, thanks to the magical pause button Netflix so kindly provides.
A New York Times review of the show reads:
Indeed, as portraits of artists go, there may never have been anything as real — and beautiful — on Broadway.
To get fans hyped for the Netflix special a corresponding soundtrack will be released on December 14, making sure Springsteen lovers are fully scrubbed up on their song lyrics ready to belt along with the Long Walk Home singer as he serenades the Broadway audience.
Tracks on the soundtrack include Growin’ Up, Thunder Road, Born In The U.S.A. and Dancing In The Dark.
Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer of Netflix, said:
We are thrilled to bring Bruce Springsteen — a master storyteller, humanitarian and voice of the everyman — to Netflix in this historic one man show.
This groundbreaking experience defies the boundaries of theatre, concerts and film and will give our global audience an intimate look at one of the biggest cultural icons of our time.
The documentary is sure to be a perfect watch for one of the long cold nights we have ahead of us!
