The Met Gala proves each year to be a place for A-list celebrities to dress to the nines and dazzle us mere mortals with their presence.

Hollywood stars take to the red carpet every year to show off their interpretation of themes such as ‘Catholic imagination’ and ‘fashion in an age of technology,’ and this year was no different.

Jared Leto brought his own severed head as his plus one, Billy Porter won the night when he was literally carried inside by six topless men, and Cardi B apparently came as a period.

The rap queen was taking no prisoners at event on Monday (May 6), at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, strutting her stuff in a blood-red gown which led many to believe she was inspired by menstrual blood.

No, seriously, her gown was more than just the same colour of period blood; many have noted how eerily similar to a uterus her dress looked, from the feathered edges to the flow of the train.

As per Teen Vogue, the dress flows in the same way as the ‘pooling of liquid’ of menstrual blood, while the folds in the dress look ‘straight up vaginal’.

The similarities don’t stop there though, as certain parts of Cardi’s body are highlighted using red sequins. For example, her belly button, breasts, nipples, vagina, and bum are all covered in sequins.

This only serves to give the theory more fruition, with many taking to social media to express their thoughts over Cardi resembling a period for the most talked-about fashion event of the year.

While some were loving the rapper’s ‘ode to menstruation’, others… well… didn’t and they couldn’t quite grasp how it fit with the ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ theme.

If it really is Cardi’s way of sticking it to the man and embracing her feminist side, I’m all here for it. But at the same time, I still don’t think I could go out in public in such a daring outfit.
