The brilliantly named Curves Allowed sing songs about how much they hate diets and how tedious they find body image shaming, The Mirror reports.
The girl group, who range from size 16 to 22, consists of members Alexsia Louca, 29, Donna Preston, 34, Simone Cornelius, 23, and Kelly Aphrodite – whose real name is Kelly Edwards-Smith, and is 29.
PA Real Life/Navvaro AydemirTheir first single, ‘Fat’ll Do Nicely’, has just been released, with 20 per cent of the sales going to Red Balloon Learner Centres – a charity that helps kids who’ve been victims of bullying.
The girls hope to raise awareness of bigger women in the music industry, and the prejudice they face.
Kelly told The Mirror: “We need to prove bigger girls aren’t just about size. We are just as capable, talented and able as slimmer women.”
Adding:
People think if you’re plus-sized you’re fat. That’s simply not true. I’ve got large boobs and a slim waist. I’m hourglass and I’m not afraid to say it.
I wasn’t a fat child or teen. I just come from a family of curvy woman.
I am not defined by my size. Once you embrace it and you feel confident life is so much better.
PA Real Life/Gavin ChapmanThe group was set up by Matt Bundy, who hosted open auditions to find the right girls. He said:
I had noticed body-shaming existed everyone and many of the charity events that were available were very strenuous. We wanted to do something to help victims of it. I just think it’s appalling. So I thought it would be a great idea to set up a group.
Before adding: “Initially it was going to be a boys’ group called Ton Direction. But the girl singers were so much more talented.”
