Fyre Festival was the party of a lifetime – until it wasn’t. Thousands of people flew out to the Bahamas in 2017, expecting VIP treatment and headlining acts, only to arrive at a dump site.
And with Netflix releasing a new documentary about the failed festival, shedding fresh light on the chaos and stirring up new feelings of anger, Fyre won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
Especially because it’s just been confirmed that The Lonely Island will be creating a spoof film similar to the events of Fyre Festival, in collaboration with Seth Rogen.
You heard me right; the comedy trio, made up of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, are currently working on a new movie about the disastrous festival alongside the Knocked Up actor.
Speaking to The Daily Beast about the project, Taccone said:
Oh yeah. I don’t want to divulge all the details but we’re figuring it out right now. You’ve seen the docs, right? It’s crazy. This is something that Akiva and Seth cooked up, and we’re figuring it all out right now.
Taccone made sure to mention Andy King, the event producer of Fyre who became the unexpected star of the Netflix documentary for saying he was willing to ‘suck d*ck’ to resolve a water issue at the festival.
Taccone excitedly said he would hire King for the film, stating:
I was like, I would hire that dude for anything… Hire that dude! That guy is a champion.
The comedian admitted he had seen the Netflix documentary three times already and envisions the film will be similar to the group’s 2016 spoof, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.
In other words, it’s going to be hilarious and not something you’ll want to miss – especially when the group have so much unbelievable material to work with already. I mean, it kinda writes itself.
It would seem the documentary has been in the works for quite some time though, as Rogen first teased the idea in 2017 – just days after the chaos that ensued after Fyre was cancelled.
Taking to Twitter, the 36-year-old actor announced he was collaborating with The Lonely Island – responsible for iconic hits such as I’m on a Boat and I Just Had Sex – to make a film about a music festival that goes ‘horribly wrong’.
As though anyone needed any confirmation that they were in fact talking about Fyre Festival, the comedy group then replied to the tweet mentioning the failed festival by name.
Forget about the party of a lifetime, this already sounds like the spoof film of a lifetime.
Now if they could just hurry up and release it already that’d be great.
