Notoriously private Aussie singer Sia has uploaded a nude photo to Twitter in retaliation to somebody selling naked photos of her.
The singer, whose full name is Sia Furler, is usually seen with huge wigs covering part of her face and has previously opened up about the struggles of life in the public eye.
Uploading a copy of the photo which is allegedly up for sale, she told fans to ‘save their money’.
She tweeted:
Someone is apparently trying to sell naked photos of me to my fans. Save your money, here it is for free. Every day is Christmas!
The post suggested an agency was selling 15 images of Sia, which included the nude.
Sia’s 3.37 million followers had her back, so to speak, praising her for the move, with such tweets as: ‘LEGEND and ICONIC no one compares to you!’
And: ‘QUEEN! This is how you handle someone trying to leak or blackmail. Sia, you are iconic.’
Sia is one of the world’s most successful songwriters, having penned tracks for the likes of Rihanna, Adele, Beyoncé and Katy Perry as well as selling millions of her own records.
Despite her huge success, she’s a fiercely private person who rarely gives interviews, and in her music videos she enlists others to take her place.
Child dancer Maddie Ziegler has appeared as Sia in some music videos and live performances.
In 2013, Sia wrote an article for Billboard titled ‘My Anti-Fame Manifesto’.
In it, she wrote:
If anyone besides famous people knew what it was like to be a famous person, they would never want to be famous. Imagine the stereotypical highly opinionated, completely uninformed mother-in-law character and apply it to every teenager with a computer in the entire world.
Then add in all bored people, as well as people whose job it is to report on celebrities. Then, picture that creature, that force, criticizing you for an hour straight once a day, every day, day after day.
That’s what it’s like, even the smallest bit of it. Of course, that’s if you even allow yourself to stay in touch with the world us in public media. If I were famous, I wouldn’t.
And then in an interview with the Guardian last year, Sia spoke about her insecurities.
She said:
It was about not having to deal with the unfairness of being a pop star. Not having to worry about camera angles catching your double chin.
Everybody in the entertainment industry is insecure.
We have been tap-dancing our entire lives for your approval and you won’t meet anybody who is in the entertainment industry who isn’t a bit f****d in the head. That’s how we got here, so if you can imagine a room full of us, it’s pretty hilarious. It’s exhausting.
In September The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were awarded €103,000 (£94,000) in damages following the trial of six people over topless photographs of Kate which were published in a French magazine in September 2012.
Fines ranging from €5,000 to €50,000 were handed out to two newspaper executives and three photographers for the invasion of privacy of Kate Middleton.
The photographs of the Duchess of Cambridge were taken with telephoto lenses while she was sunbathing with Prince William on a patio at a private estate in south France.
