Jordan Strauss/PASony have issued an official response to the growing calls for Kesha to be released from her contract.
The pop star is embroiled in a legal battle with the company to be released from her deal with Sony subsidiary Kemosabe.
Kesha has accused Kemosabe producer Lukas Gottwald, aka. Dr Luke, of sexual assault and refuses to work with him, but a judge ruled she cannot produce music outside of that contract.
Fans have started crowdfunding to raise the required funds to buy her out of the contract, and Taylor Swift also donated $250,000 (£180,000) to Kesha’s cause.
Unfortunately, despite all the support, Sony claim they cannot terminate the deal as the contract is with Dr Luke and not Sony directly, The Independent reports.
Sony released the following statement via their attorney to The New York Times:
Sony has made it possible for Kesha to record without any connection, involvement or interaction with Luke whatsoever, but Sony is not in a position to terminate the contractual relationship between Luke and Kesha.
Sony is doing everything it can to support the artist in these circumstances, but is legally unable to terminate the contract to which it is not a party.
Sadly, it appears this dispute is a long way from being resolved.
