Soulja Boy has been sentenced to 240 days of jail time.

The Kiss Me Thru The Phone rapper appeared in court yesterday (April 30) after being taken into custody at the beginning of April.

Soulja Boy, real name DeAndre Cortez Way, was arrested on April 11 and has been held without bail at the Los Angeles’ Men’s Central Jail since then.

As reported by TMZ, the 28-year-old was sentenced for violating his probation after the judge said he failed to do his court-ordered community service. It was also reported the rapper conspired to falsify evidence he had completed it.

Adding to this, police allegedly found ammunition in the rapper’s home in Agoura Hills, California, while investigating a claim by his ex-girlfriend the rapper had tied her up and held her hostage.

Possession of ammunition goes against the rapper’s probation, which stems from a December 2014 conviction for carrying a loaded firearm in public, Pitchfork reports.

At the time, Way was sentenced to 24 months of probation but was arrested for violating these terms in December 2016 – exactly two years later – after police said they found a gun in his home.

Only one month later, the rapper was charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor – all of which were linked to the arrest – and in March 2017, he was convicted on one of the felonies and handed five years probation.

Yesterday, the judge informed Soulja Boy he was initially considering a sentence of two years in state prison but decided to be slightly lenient in final sentencing. The judge also acknowledged the rapper had missed out on certain opportunities while behind bars.

As per CNN, Fred G. Minassian, Soulja Boy’s attorney, said:

My client is very thankful to the judge that he was sentenced to only 240 days because the judge was initially contemplating a sentence of two years.

Once he’s released, he’s committed to follow all the orders and directives of the court and of the probation department.

The rapper will be credited with 40 days served already owing to the time he has already spent behind bars without bail.

On top of his jail time, Soulja Boy will also be serving 265 days of community service.
