The Killers Say We’ve All Been Singing Mr. Brightside All Wrong

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for your entire life or happen to be under 16 years of age, you probably remember a smasher called Mr. Brightside.

It was the first single released by American rock band The Killers and peaked at number 10 in both the U.S. and UK charts.

Whether you screamed to it at the top of your lungs at a party, jammed to it at a school dance or find yourself humming it from time to time, there’s no denying the song is iconic.

But we’ve been singing it wrong this whole time.

According to The Killers themselves, if you’ve been singing along to the first line a little something like this: “Coming out of my cage/And I’ve been doing just fine/Gotta gotta be down/Because I want it all,” it’s wrong.

Taking to Facebook, the band made it very clear that those are not the lyrics – despite what azlyrics.com is telling you.

Instead, the line reads like this:

 Shocked? Us too.

But it’s great news for anyone who loves the band and Nic Cage.

And apparently it’s not the only lyric in the 2005 smash hit that we’ve been getting so, so wrong.
