It’s been six years since Manchester’s four-piece rejoined after disappearing from the limelight.
The sell-out gig at Wembley was by far the band’s biggest concert to date and the loyal northern crowds followed the band down to the capital.
With support from The God, Sleaford Mods and Blossoms, the night had a Mancunian feel right from the off.
This continued right into the opening song, as legendary opener to their debut album, I Wanna Be Adored, was belted out by both Ian Brown and a packed Wembley.
The tunes were met with a vibrant display from the crowd as flares lit up across the stadium.
The atmosphere was perfect, with no hostility in the stadium as everybody embraced songs from both 1989’s The Stone Roses and Second Coming.
The band threw in All For One for good measure, but nothing came close to the chanting from the original songs.
If you weren’t already on your feet by the time Fools Gold came on you certainly were when it started.
It was fitting that the band spread out the classics, leaving gaps between the likes of Waterfall, Shoot You Down and She Bangs The Drums.
While the band managed to keep the party going after the sun had set, the crowd turned on their phone torches as This Is The One came on.
The summer vibes were felt around the stadium, providing a feeling of jubilation despite everything else going on in the outside world.
The band made a statement with their classic set finisher – I Am The Resurrection – foreshadowing the fact that, after all, the band are here to stay for just a little while longer.
They headlined T in the Park last summer and have an arena tour to complete. While they continue to play the old bangers, the love for both the tunes and the band doesn’t look like fading any time soon.
