As an act of defiance in the wake of the Paris attacks, fans of Eagles of Death Metal have started a campaign to get the band’s cover of Duran Duran’s ‘Save A Prayer’ to number one.

A Facebook group has been set up to support the cause, and the page already has more than 3,500 supporters.

The Facebook page says:

Let’s get the Eagles Of Death Metal to the UK No.1 THIS WEEK to show our solidarity against terrorism and support for peace. We thought it would be a nice gesture to put their brilliant version of ‘Save A Prayer’ to the UK No.1 spot as a show of support to the band and all of those affected.

Save A Prayer…the perfect tune for us all right now. Spend a quid to show your solidarity not only with the band, but…

At least 127 people were killed in terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday night, with the majority of those attending an EoDM gig at the Bataclan concert hall in the city. Members of the band were all confirmed safe after gunmen stormed the venue and shot fans, however their merchandise manager Nick Alexander was the first Brit to die in the attacks.

It’s still unclear whether the proceeds from the single will go to Eagles of Death Metal and Duran Duran or to charity – some have described the move as in “poor taste” and suggested the money from the campaign should be donated to the victims of the attacks.

The song has already hit No. 1 on the iTunes Rock chart and currently sits at No. 35 on the main iTunes music chart.
