It’s been 22 years since his death, but Tupac Shakur’s legacy and influence on the rap world has never diminished.
And now, it seems yet another posthumous event is on the horizon, as the rapper’s Instagram, which is managed by his estate, is teasing a new release for this weekend, November 24.
Posting a photo of Tupac with ‘1998’ and the upcoming date emblazoned across it, the teaser was captioned simply: ‘Sign up to be the first to know.’
Whether it’s a new album, a collection of unheard outtakes or what, we’ll have to wait for the weekend. However, it should also be noted that this Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of 2Pac’s Greatest Hits, though his estate have remained tight-lipped when asked if they’ll be commemorating the date.
On the other hand, earlier this year the late rapper’s estate won a lengthy legal battle with Entertainment One who, they claimed, had withheld royalties.
Along with a six-figure settlement, Entertainment One also had to hand over a number of unreleased recordings, apparently with enough material for at least two, possibly three, new albums, according to The Blast.
Will this weekend be the first time we get to hear this previously unreleased music? Tupac’s official webstore seems to be counting down to something…
