Although we tell everyone we hate James Blunt’s classic song You’re Beautiful, secretly we all love it and can’t help singing along whenever it’s playing.

The former army reconnaissance officer-turned-singer-songwriter has quite the back catalogue of records but poor Blunt can’t escape from the haunting track which is overwhelmingly both adored and hated across the world.

It’s a strange phenomenon and now, it turns out, although the song sounds romantic, it’s actually all kinds of dark.

Here’s a refresher of the banger if you haven’t been to a wedding recently:

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Blunt revealed his popular track doesn’t have the loving meaning everyone thinks it does.

In fact, the song is about a guy who’s as high as a kite off some really strong drugs, harassing a woman on a train.

Well isn’t that romantic!

Blunt explained:

Everyone goes, ‘Ah, he’s so romantic. I want You’re Beautiful as my wedding song.’ These people are f*cked up.

You get labelled with these things like, ‘Oh, James Blunt. Isn’t he just a soft romantic?’. Well, f*ck that. No, I’m not.

You’re Beautiful is not this soft romantic f*cking song. It’s about a guy who’s high as a f*cking kite on drugs in the subway, stalking someone else’s girlfriend when the guy is there in front of him, and he should be locked up or put in prison for being some kind of perv.

Well, we’ve certainly been told!

At least he’s honest I guess? Although his revelation has probably ruined couples’ weddings and memories across the world…

Blunt also said despite being thankful about the success the song has brought him, he’s pretty sick of it.

He continued:

The fact you and I are talking really is only because of that song. It’s one of the highlights of the concerts.

Not the highlight, but one of them, and for me it’s a highlight because it’s almost the end of the concert and nearly time for a beer.

But too much of a good thing turns into a bad thing eventually and it got a lot of airplay and it doesn’t take much to work out that kind of thing.

I love hamburgers, but if you give me a hamburger for every meal I’m gonna tire of it. Is it an annoying song? No, it’s not, unless it’s shoved down your f*cking throat a sh*tload.

Although he’s clearly tired of the song, he does continue playing it for fans because he knows it’s what they want to hear.

This year Blunt released his new album, The Afterlove, which he announced in the most hilarious way on Twitter.

Proving once again he’s the undisputed king of the social media platform, he tweeted:

If you thought 2016 was bad – I’m releasing an album in 2017.

Classic Blunt, once again making fun of his own music.

Let’s not forget about all of these wonderful moments:

Seriously though, no one is funnier online. No one.
