A teenager is planning to sue his parents who allegedly set up CCTV in his bedroom and bathroom to stop him from masturbating.
The 15-year-old claims the cameras were set up around his house after his dad caught him masturbating earlier this month.
Taking to social media to seek legal advice, the teenager labelled his dad’s actions as ’embarrassing’ and emphasised that it ‘destroys’ his privacy.
The unknown 15-year-old posted on Reddit’s legal advice subreddit, asking people online for advice on what he should do.
The teenager wrote, as per The Sun:
I’m 15 and think I should be allowed to touch my own body. This is embarrassing and destroys my privacy, please help.
My dad barged in without knocking and started screaming at me. He and my mom then sat me down and told me I’m not allowed to touch myself.
The boy, from Alaska, claims his parents have installed cameras in both his bedroom and the bathroom to prevent him from masturbating.
Explaining how his parents are against sexual activities before marriage, the teenager claimed they also prevented him from taking part in sex education classes at school.
The 15-year-old wrote:
I asked my dad and he said they are putting them [cameras] in my room and bathroom so they can monitor and make sure I’m not masturbating.
I said that wasn’t okay, and he said that I agreed to not masturbate and this is holding me to the agreement.
The teenager went on to describe how he found an Amazon package at his home and discovered the indoor security cameras inside.
The boy’s parents allegedly told their son they would check the cameras every day to make sure he wasn’t masturbating against their wishes.
Reddit users advised the teenager to speak to another adult regarding the matter, emphasising that their behaviour is not acceptable. One person described his parents behaviour as ‘extremely alarming’ while another said it was ‘extremely inappropriate’.
Others encouraged the boy to speak out while reassuring him that masturbation is ‘completely normal’ and nothing to be ashamed about.
The boy later posted an update post titled: ‘confronted dad about cameras being put in my room and it got way worse’ – however, both that and the original post have since been deleted.
It’s not known what happened with the situation or whether the cameras were removed from the boy’s room.
