A huge £3.5 billion theme park could be opening right here in the UK within the next five years – and it looks absolutely epic.

Although the deal between the developers and Paramount Pictures entertainment company has collapsed, the developers said they still hoped to submit plans by the end of 2017.

The resort on the Swanscombe Peninsula, near Dartford, is planned to be ‘twice the size of the Olympic Park and include 5,000 hotel rooms and a water park’, according to the BBC.

The park is due to open on the 900-acre site in 2022 if a Development Consent Order is approved by the government. Please government, please!

Before Paramount pulled the plug, it had been planned to have more than 50 rides and attractions based on films and TV programmes to which Paramount Pictures has the rights – including Iron Man and Transformers.

Humphrey Percy, chief executive of the developers – London Resort Company Holdings – said:

What it means is we won’t have the name Paramount above the door. We are not looking for the equivalent of Paramount. We are not looking for a new studio.

We are committed to going ahead – nothing has changed on that score. What it means in reality is that we will be able to talk to other brands, stories, films and television programmes.

It just gives us the freedom to work with other partners.

According to Business Insider, tickets are expected to cost around £57 per day and the entry price could include travel from central London in a bid to cut down on cars travelling to and from the park.

It is also expected to attract around 40,000 visitors a day if and when it opens in 2022.

Plans include a theatre with ‘West End quality’ shows, hotels, restaurants and bars, a cinema, nightclubs, ponds and canals, a conference and event space that could host music and sporting events, as well as one of the largest indoor water parks in Europe.
