SWNSAhh Christmas, you either love it or you loathe it. If you do love it, good for you. You probably like being around relatives who overstay their welcome and still believe in the magic of Santa Claus.
Which is absolutely precious. If you are pining for that early Christmas spirit then maybe you should start shopping at your local Tesco supermarket (and lock yourself in there while you’re at it), as the staff at their Cambridge branch have started putting up Christmas decorations.
Remember when Christmas used to be about celebrating the birth of your lord and saviour Jesus Christ? No? To be honest, I don’t either.
Some people may think putting up a Christmas tree at the end of August is a bit premature, but Tesco’s Cambridge branch scoffs at that notion as they plonked their 25ft tree in the middle of the parking lot.
They’ve become the first supermarket to nail their festive colours to the mast, beating out competing branches including Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Waitrose.
Before you start getting into a huff about nothing, it’s not a permanent fixture. As it turns out, the tree, which has been decorated with elegant fairy lights, was put up at 8am (BST) this morning, (Thursday, August 30) as part of a Christmas advert they’re filming.
However, despite the obviously valid reasons, it didn’t stop people from having an opinion about it…

It was just while we were popping into Tesco and took a photo otherwise people wouldn’t believe us.
We were thinking more on the lines of ‘what is the world coming to when it’s Christmas in August in the Tesco car park.
I mean I know the shops are bringing Christmas stuff in earlier and earlier but a Christmas tree in August is just odd.
Loyal Tesco customer Rob James, felt incensed his local supermarket dared to show any premature festive spirit.
He took to Twitter to let his frustrations be known, saying:
Just seen a Christmas tree getting decoreted in the car park of Newmarket Road @Tesco.
It’s bonkers! I don’t understand why it was there? [sic]
Tesco’s fired back at Rob with a saucy hot take of their own.
They replied saying:
Hi Rob, Oh that’s a bit early isn’t it! 117 sleeps to go! I hope it will be decorated with Halloween decorations first :) [sic]

At the beginning of August, when the weather was still baking and people were still in flip-flops and shorts, Selfridges made headlines after becoming the first department store to put up their Christmas decorations.
In a press statement, Selfridges Christmas and home buyer, Eleanor Gregory, said:
We have so many customers visiting from all over the world, eager to snap up festive decorations and souvenirs on their London summer holidays which they can’t buy at home.
This year it will expand to Christmas gifts for pets, the option to create a personalised family Christmas jumper and more than 50 types of tinsel ranging in price from £3 to £15 for the ‘ultimate tinsel garland.’
PAThey expect to hit peak stock by September, with customers being able to pick from a range of nearly 4,000 items.
The cheapest item you can buy is a souvenir pencil for £1.95, one of the more costly items is a selection of ornate neon signs selling for around £8,500
