Warner BrosAnother version of horror classic ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ is reportedly in the works, despite it only being five years since the movie was last remade.
The classic franchise, which introduced the world to Freddy Krueger and spawned six sequels, was originally rebooted in 2010 because all good movies need to be updated for modern audiences, apparently.
However, in a worrying indication that Hollywood is quickly running out of new ideas for blockbusters, another remake of the 1984 film is now in the early stages of development. Maybe they’re hoping that audiences have very short memories?
Scriptwriter David Leslie Johnson and New Line Cinema are said to be on board for the retelling of the famous movie in which a group of teenagers find themselves falling victim to Freddy – a horribly disfigured, razor-gloved serial killer who invades their dreams.
The 2010 reboot, which starred Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara and Kellan Lutz, didn’t prove too popular with critics but it was a box office hit, raking in more than $117 million (£75m) worldwide.
And we get the sneaking suspicion that it’ll be the cash, rather than the quality that the executives are focusing on with the new version too!
