Warner Bros and DC are now in the process of developing a movie based around Superman’s equally badass cousin, Supergirl.

Although much about the movie remains mysterious, Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) is said to be working on the script.

This information has been divulged by Deadline, who have revealed there is no producer on this project as of yet. Its also unknown whether or not Superman himself will be making an appearance.

Created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, Supergirl first flew into the world in 1959, in DC’s Action Comics #252.

Now, Supergirl – also known as Kara Zor-El – differs to Clark Kent in that she actually spent her childhood on the ill-fated planet of Krypton.

The daughter of Zor-El and Alura. She escapes to earth as a teenager, and has incredible superhuman abilities, just like her cousin.

Of course, speculation has already turned to who exactly will be playing Supergirl.

Melissa Benoist played the powerful heroine in the well-received recent TV series, with many critics praising her performance.

However, with the second most famous Kryptonian taking to the silver screen for a new generation, who will don her famous cape?

Comic book fans on Twitter have suggested actors such as Vanessa Kirby, Lily James and Blake Lively, who all have the potential to be excellent casting choices.

Fans of Kara are excited and have high hopes for this film.

One person tweeted:

Time to get that dark, gritty Supergirl you’ve always wanted!!!!

Yay about time! If I could I’d jump around xxxxxx

Let’s hope Supergirl can live up to the lofty heights set by DC’s Wonder Woman, and avoid the deflation imposed on fans by Suicide Squad.
