Aldi Is Selling Baileys Ice Cream Sandwiches

There’s something distinct and unique about having a shot of Baileys and in a bid to make their taste reach a diverse market they’ve now turned it into an ice cream sandwich.

I remember when I turned 18 and I was legally allowed to buy alcohol, one the first drinks I wanted to try was a bottle of Baileys. The smooth cream liqueur certainly left an impression on my mouth.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on which way you look at it), as I grew older I discovered rum and left the iconic black bottle to collect dust in my drinks cabinet.

Soon the bottle was lost in an ether (and diet) of Sailor Jerry’s, Mount Gay and Green Island Spiced Gold. I don’t know where the bottle is now and if I’m being honest I’m not really incensed to buy another bottle.

However, I will admit to missing the taste now again, thankfully Aldi is now stocking a Baileys-flavoured ice cream sandwich, just in time for the summer (however long that decides to last).

The popular Irish liqueur is perfect for a summer dessert as you bite into a frozen cream flavoured Baileys which is sandwiched in between two chocolate biscuits.

Aldi Food Review: BAILEYS ICE CREAM SANDWICHES! (These deserve capital letters!)

But before you run down to your local Aldi there’s some bad news, yep, you guessed it, it’s currently available in Australia.

In hindsight it’s fair because it’s hot down under almost all the time. So it looks like us folks in the UK will have to wait till summertime before we see it on Aldi’s shelves.

Unless you want to pay for a flight to go Down Under… it’s not cheap though.

However, if you are really craving some Baileys flavoured goodness world-renowned ice cream makers Haagen-Das have their very own brand of Baileys ice cream which you can buy in supermarkets such across the UK such as Sainsbury’s.

Staying on the subject of alcohol and ice cream, a food company in South Korea as conjured up one which can cure the mother of all hangovers.

I always thought the claims that ice cream can cure hangovers, possibly originating from Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s cult classic Shaun of The Dead, was complete and utter rubbish. But lo and behold I’ve been proven wrong.

According to Reuters, a South Korean shop has launched Gyeondyo-bar – an ice cream sandwich which allegedly has the power to combat the after-effects of even the messiest of nights out.

Literally translating into English as ‘hang in there’ (quite appropriate don’t you think?) it is a grapefruit flavoured ice cream which contains a tiny amount of ‘oriental raisin tree fruit juice’ – a traditional Korean hangover remedy which has been used for hundreds of years.

Now before you go dismissing this as some sort of mystical East Asian fable the claims have been backed up the Journal of Neuroscience who say the oriental raisin tree extracts has been observed to reduce the symptoms of intoxication in rats.

My take away from this piece of information – rats like to get wasted.
