When the news emerged of just how badly injured the four victims from the Alton Towers Smiler crash hit, four lives were changed forever.
Now at varying stages of their rehabilitation, Leah Washington, Joe Pugh, Daniel Thorpe and Vicky Balch are trying to rebuild their lives.
After appearing on TV to talk about having her leg amputated, 20-year-old Vicky has now received an offer to model on the catwalk – in order to promote Models of Diversity.
The event in west London, at Shepherd’s Bush Market, will feature models who are disabled, and was called ‘inspirational’ by Ambassador for Models of Diversity Sarah O’Rourke.
Speaking about her amputation and the crash earlier in the week, Vicky said:
I remember it going into my knees and it hurt. The pain was indescribable.
It hurt so much, as I’m talking about it I can still feel how it did as it crashed into my legs.
I couldn’t tell you how many times it impacted on it because I fainted.
I didn’t want to look at my legs. I never thought I would be able to walk again. I could see it dripping the entire time. I didn’t think I would make it. I didn’t think I could cope with the pain for as long as I did.
