In great news for students, Amazon have announced the start of a one-hour alcohol delivery service which will bring booze straight to your door.
There’s just one catch – you have to live in Seattle and be a member of Amazon Prime.
The company announced the plans to roll out its Prime Now service in the area, which is where Amazon’s U.S. headquarters are based, offering the 60 minute delivery on “groceries, gifts, goodies and more from your favourite local stores”.
The service is already available in select areas of U.S. cities including New York, Portland, Miami, Atlanta and Chicago, but those in Seattle will be the first in the country with the option of ordering alcohol through the service’s mobile app.
Two-hour delivery on beer, spirits, wine and other items purchased through the service is free for those with a $99-a-year Prime membership, while one-hour delivery costs just $7.99.
Amazon hasn’t revealed any plans to deliver booze beyond Seattle and its surrounding areas but given the excitement over this announcement, it’s probably only a matter of time before it becomes a reality.
Speaking to Buzzfeed, an Amazon company spokesman said:
Like with any product offering, we will evaluate customer response and if customers love the convenience of having alcohol delivered in under an hour right to their doors then we’ll look to expand the offering.
And, let’s face it, who in their right mind wouldn’t love the convenience?
The London version of Prime Now is set to be rolled out next June so UK users of Amazon Prime will definitely be keeping their fingers crossed that the alcohol delivery service proves a success in Seattle so that the company bring the idea across the pond too!
Even so, we’re a little bit worried. I mean, if we can get booze and DVDs delivered to us this easily, why would we ever leave the house again? This could be the end of humanity as we know it, guys…
