The whole world thought Amazon’s ‘Dash buttons’ were an April Fools joke when they were first announced on March 31 – but it turns out they’re not.

The invention is basically a button you can buy for a specific product that, when pressed, places a new order for said product. So, as the image above shows, if you run out of washing powder, a new box can be on the way with just one click. And with Amazon’s Prime Delivery taking over the world at the moment, it shouldn’t take very long to get to you.

Initially, the Dash Buttons were only available to Prime members by a way of invitation, but as of this week, any Prime member is now free to purchase them for the small price of $4.99 each. And we assume they will be available to everybody in the near future, if Amazon actually do want to change the world.

Currently, 18 Dash Buttons exist, but there will be new ones added quite consistently as the invention grows in popularity and the company start to see results.

Talking through how it works, Amazon explained: “Use the Amazon app on your smartphone to easily connect to your home Wi-Fi and select the product you want to reorder with Dash Button. Once connected, a single press automatically places your order.”

The future is here, people. But be careful with it!
