WARNING: Spoilers for Game of Thrones!

Poor Stannis Baratheon had a pretty bad time of it in Game of Thrones, so much so that even the actor who played him has spoken out against the show.

Stephen Dillane, the actor who plays Stannis, had a particularly rough season five – he burned a lot of people at the stake, his army was thrashed by a raging psychopath and, worst of all, he ended up on the sharp end of Brienne of Tarth’s sword.

Most actors would probably be a bit sad about leaving arguably the biggest TV show on the planet, but most people aren’t Dillane.

In a recent interview with the French magazine Liberation, he confessed that the show passed him by in a bit of a blur and that he didn’t really understand what was going on.

Below is an excerpt from the interview translated in straight detail.

He said:

I do not regret having done Game of Thrones, but I have nothing to say. I understood neither the series nor its success when I was attending. The experience was very strange, it passed under my nose. For a role like it to me, I must get interested could, which was not really the case. I was a bit overwhelmed.

He also confirmed that Stannis will not return, ruling out a resurrection by the Lord of Light, and made passing mention to having done the series just for the money.

We almost admire his honesty. At least he didn’t call it just ‘tits and dragons‘…
