Police in Germany are appealing for members of the public to submit any evidence of yesterday’s tragic shooting as they begin an anti-terror manhunt.
Last night, a lone gunman opened fire in the Munich Olympia shopping mall killing nine people and wounding 16. The shooter then took his own life, the BBC reports.
There’s no current motive for the German-Iranian man’s terrible actions, although Chancellor Angela Merkel’s chief of staff, Peter Altmaier, said: “We cannot rule out that it is linked to terrorism.”
Police are expected to give an update on their investigation into the shooting later today and are asking people to upload any recordings that could help them to a special account.
Hubertus Andrae, the Munich police chief, told reporters yesterday that the shooter hadn’t been known to police and had no known links to militant groups.
Already, German special forces have allegedly searched the gunman’s home in the Munich district of Maxvorstadt and it’s alleged the shooter shouted ‘I’m German’ before opening fire.
Despite the horrendous events of last night, authorities report Munich is ‘returning to normal’ and public transport which was suspended after the attack has resumed.
Mourners have pad tribute to those who died, laying flowers and lighting candles outside the shopping mall.
The shooting is the third attack on civilians in western Europe in eight days.
