Almost four in every 100 Brits have confessed to drinking their own piss.

Urophagia, or urine therapy, is an ancient technique that’s been used to treat a range of conditions such as asthma, allergies, indigestion, wrinkles and even cancer, the Mirror reports.

The survey was conducted by Plumbworld, who realised new drinkers might need something to disguise the natural bitterness of urine so they came up with a range of punny cocktails including the Pee’na Gryllada and a Long Island Iced Pee.

A surprising number of famous names have enjoyed the odd drink including survival expert Bear Grylls, who was shown guzzling his own pee on Man VS Wild to keep hydrated.

Other famous pee drinkers include Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez, British actress Sarah Miles, Author J.D. Salinger and even the former Prime Minister of India Morarji Desai.

In the UK, couple Bex Long and John Dixon shocked viewers when they appeared on This Morning to demonstrate their drinking habits, and claimed that quaffing their own pee had ‘banished symptoms of depression as well as making their eyes brighter and their skin clearer’.

So have you ever sampled your own produce?
