Analysts studying Tutankhamun’s tomb have discovered two secret rooms hidden deep within the burial chamber.
According to the Independent, scans have revealed two rooms hidden on the north and eastern walls of the tomb – in Luxor, Egypt – that could contain metal or organic material.
The alarming discovery was made after a Japanese radar study looking to map out the contents of the tomb picked up the secret chambers.
Experts are hoping that the previously undiscovered chambers could unlock some of the deepest secrets of the ancient Egyptians.
Some theories have even suggested that parts of the tomb might contain the resting place of Queen Nefertiti – who some scholars believe may have been Tutankhamun’s mother.
If the chambers are found to be hiding the tomb of Queen Nefertiti, they could be one of the most important archaeological finds of the 21st century.
They could settle the ongoing arguments over her final resting place and possibly prove the theory that Tutankhamun’s tomb was originally built for his possible mother.
The tomb was initially ‘found’ in 1922 by a team supervised by British Archaeologist Howard Carter.
For many years it was thought to be cursed after a number of people involved in the discovery died under strange circumstances.
