Officers are responding to a reported incident at London’s Oxford Circus tube station.
There have been reports of people running away from the scene.
Along with this, there have also been reports of the station being evacuated.
One person tweeted:
An unusual hustle in Oxford Circus, people run out from a shop screaming, police arrived and closed the road.
There have been reports on Twitter of ‘gunshots, screams and sirens’.
The store Selfridges is also reportedly being evacuated, according to various social media accounts.
Met Police are now advising people to avoid the area in question, as well as Regent Street, and footage has emerged showing officers clearing crowds away from the area, tweeting:
Our officers are on the scene at #OxfordCircus tube station with @BTP Please avoid the Oxford Circus area whilst we deal with the incident. More info asap

If you are on Oxford Street go into a building. Officers are on scene and dealing. More info when we can
British Transport Police tweeted to say:
Officers are on scene alongside @metpoliceuk at Oxford Circus. Please continue to avoid the area. Oxford Circus and Bond Street station are closed.
Met Police then wrote:
Police called at 16:38 to a number of reports of shots fired on #OxfordStreet & underground at Oxford Circus tube station.
Police have responded as if the incident is terrorist related.
Armed and unarmed officers are on scene and dealing along with colleagues from @BTP
BBC journalist Ben Tavener tweeted:
People just started running in all directions.
And as we moved away more people came running from every direction.
Mass panic on Oxford/Regent St on business shopping day of year so far.
